All good things must come to an end. Last week, GOSO Guys and their mentors marked the culmination of our latest 4-month Coaches Club cycle. Over 16 weeks, ten pairs of coaches and mentees came together for experiences like painting, basketball match-ups, street fair explorations and quiet conversation over lunch or dinner. GOSO thanks our volunteer coaches for their commitment. Pictured here, our crew heads to Dave & Buster’s for end-of-cycle revelry!
GOSO’s Coaches Club trains volunteers to mentor young men in our community-based program in East Harlem. We pair every GOSO participant with a mentor who shares his career skills and/or interests. Mentors and mentees convene twice a month for coffee chats in the office or recreational activities at various venues throughout New York. Community members help the young men develop the wisdom necessary to surmount obstacles at school and at work. A professional and personal relationship with a mentor can greatly facilitate the transition for a GOSO participant as he leaves prison to become a productive, contributing member of society.
