On April 20, 2023, more than 250 guests gathered at the iconic New-York Historical Society to honor GOSO community champions and celebrate our participants, who demonstrate strength and determination to change their lives every day despite all obstacles.
Over 15,000 young people have changed their lives thanks to GOSO’s programs in education, employment, emotional well-being, and violence prevention. Participant turned staff member Hakim ended the program perfectly with these words:
“Seeing you all show love for GOSO tonight has been an incredible experience. I love my job. It means a lot to me to be out in the community, interrupting violence before it happens, mediating conflicts, and keeping the peace in my neighborhood. Without GOSO, I’m not sure exactly what I’d be doing with my life. GOSO helped me find my direction and my purpose. GOSO is there for all the other Hakims out there who may have gotten off to the wrong foot. And I’m so proud that I’m doing my part now as part of GOSO.”
The GOSO team is deeply grateful for every person who celebrated with us and helped our big night be a success. Whether you were there in person or supported us from afar, you are also doing your part by helping us maintain our momentum. With your support, we will continue to expand our vital programs and reach more youth.
Congratulations again to all of our honorees. We presented the 2023 Justice Award to Debevoise & Plimpton for their extraordinary commitment to preserving the rights of the young people we serve and the 2023 Community Award to Georges H. Leconte and NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem for their commitment to healing and helping the people of Harlem. Additionally, we honored Valentino Dixon with our 2023 Pinnacle Award for his resilience in the face of injustice and his willingness to speak out in support of others.
The evening would also not have been the same without our wonderful Emcee, Monica Morales.
We would also like to thank all our sponsors, board members, and members of our Host Committee for making this event possible. Click here to see our full digital journal.
